Tips to Inspect for Carpenter Ants!

Ants of all different types can invade our homes. From pavement ants to pharaoh ants and odorous house ants, they are all unwanted pests! These pests can show up without any notice and take over. However, one ant that causes the most damage is the carpenter ant. They are known for their ability to cause damage to your home by chewing away at wooden structures. Although they do not eat wood like termites, they still cause damage by creating tubular galleries to house their colonies.

Here are some tips to inspect for them:

1. Check out areas of high moisture that are also in contact with wood or soil. Any areas that have poor ventilation and are also exposed to structural lumber can be problem spots too.

2. Is it an infestation or a one-off ant? Look for groups of ants together and check areas like under the kitchen sink!

3. Look above ground-level! These ants may have wings and may not always be at floor level (where most ants are typically found). Sometimes there are swarms of winged ants and they may be looking to get outdoors.

4. Piles of sawdust are also a sign that carpenter ants are making a move!

5. Listen through the walls! Sometimes, dry rustling noises are another thing to inspect for. These are noises you may hear at night when the ants are most active.
