Carpenter Ants & Their Hiding Places!

Carpenter Ants can be both indoor and outdoor pests. As the weather gets warmer, they will retreat out of their hibernation, looking for a place to live with resources. So don’t be surprised to see more of these pests out and about! They like to stay close to areas with moisture and food, primarily wood! Inside your home, they like areas such as ceilings, inside walls, or any other areas of structural support. These areas usually have a lot of wood and make the perfect hiding place. Other areas to look out for are:

• Window frames

• Roof eaves

• Decks and porches

• Shingles

• Insulated areas

• Sills

It is common for homeowners to come across Carpenter Ants in the Spring. Some have had to replace their entire deck due to structural wood damage. So do not underestimate the power of these pests!

Remember to also look out for small piles of sawdust in these moist areas, which can indicate their presence! Sometimes carpenter ants go undetected because they conceal themselves inside your walls or other hidden areas. You may also see the ants themselves, which is an obvious warning sign!
