Can Bed Bugs Live in High Rise Condominiums?

Bed Bugs are sometimes misconceived to only be in public spaces – hotels, airports, and even public transportation. However, these days it is more common to find these pests making their way home with you, especially into high rises in Toronto. Over the past two years, the bed bug incidents in high rises have skyrocketed. Many hotels and businesses have professional programs in place, where as in apartments, the problems are easily neglected. The management of a building should really help to hinder the problem. Be aware of warning signs such as blood stains, or feces, that are left behind. Other identifiers include shedding of their skin, eggs, or dried up larvae. These can even be found outside of the bed. However, bed bugs like to stay close to their food source – you! Using a product like mattress covers can help minimize infestations. Remember… just because you’re in a high rise condo, doesn’t mean you’re a rise above the bed bugs!
