Age  -

lt is with great sadness and breaking hearts we express the loss of our dear husband, father and grandfather, Bob Venables, who passed away at St. Therese Villa in Lethbridge, Alberta at the age of 91.

Born in Brandon, Manitoba, the second of three sons to Arthur and Mary Venables, he moved to Lethbridge as a lad with his family. Bob wore many hats for employment during his colourful life. At seventeen and gung-ho, he joined the army, only to be ejected because he was too young. After leaving the fire department, he became a motorcycle policeman, which led to his love of bikes. There were other positions such as oil rig roughneck and car and truck salesman. In later years he worked maintenance at McGavin’s Bakery, Extendicare, and Wheatland Bins, the latter being his favourite place of employment. His cruise in NASCAR in 2002 was a highlight and a cherished memory to be beheld. He was happy to have the opportunity to sit in an Indy car at the Indianapolis Car Museum. He had trouble getting out of that one.

Bob met Connie Field and they married in 1950. They had a long life together, which lasted sixty-six years. In that time, they raised four children. He was a member of the Windy West Model Airplane Club for many years, building and flying models of all sizes and styles. An established artist, he produced many pen and ink artworks, mostly of motorcycles and old autos, which were another love of his.

Remarried late in life to Kathy Rollingson, Bob found much happiness. It was a fifty-year friendship that somehow blossomed into love. With Bob, it was easy.

Bob was predeceased by his loving first wife Connie, his parents, brother Ted and sister-in-law Laura.

A man who was very proud of his family, he is survived by his beloved wife Kathy, daughter Dianne (Shane) Porter, sons Rod (Shelly), Dan, Jeff (Karen), stepdaughter Pat (Dave) Olson, stepson Bill Rollingson, 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Also left to mourn him are his brother Gary (Marion), and best friends Karl (Doreen) Johnson and Glen (Jeanette) Richardson.

A Come and Go Celebration of Life will be held between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM, on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH 1614 5 AVE S, Lethbridge, Alberta.

Cremation entrusted to Martin Brothers Funeral Home.

Bob was an animal lover. In lieu of flowers, please find it in your heart to donate to an animal shelter of your choosing.
