A Thoughtful Approach to Final Arrangements

We provide cremation services tailored to your loved one's wishes.

Reliable Cremation Services in Lethbridge

The choice for cremation is a very personal one and can offer very individualized service options. A funeral is simply defined as “a ceremony for celebrating, sanctifying or remembering the life of a person who has died.” A life lived is a life worth remembering. How you choose to memorialize a loved one following cremation may vary, however a funeral may act as a steppingstone in the grieving process. Perhaps that means a backyard BBQ, a time to reflect with family & friends over coffee, or a time of worship & fellowship in your local parish; however, you define a funeral, ensure that it means the most to you.

At Martin Brothers Funeral Services in Lethbridge, we encourage you to document your wishes in our Personal Pre-planning Guides to ensure they are honoured. While some believe their will suffices, it's crucial to note that Wills are often read after the funeral process, delaying the fulfillment of your wishes.

If cremation is your preference, it's essential to understand our approach:

  • Cremation typically occurs 4-5 days after passing, not immediately as commonly assumed.

  • The day of passing is for notifying family and friends.

  • The following day, families gather at our funeral home to make arrangements.

  • On the third day, a visitation is scheduled for loved ones to pay their respects.

  • Funeral or memorial services follow in subsequent days.

  • You can choose whether the cremation casket is present at the service; The Alberta Funeral Service Regulatory Board mandates an enclosed casket suitable for cremation, ranging from basic to elaborate.

After the service, cremation occurs, and ashes are usually available for final committal within 72 hours. Options for final resting places include local cemeteries, Columbarium Niches, or scattering on land.

Aftercare

After your loved one's services are completed, we provide families with Aftercare guidance. This includes assisting in filling out and submitting forms for Canada Pension Death Benefit and Old Age Security and notifying relevant organizations. Our step-by-step approach helps manage your loved one's affairs smoothly.

Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Benefits Explained

CPP benefits are accessible to individuals who have contributed throughout their working lives. Contrary to common belief, the maximum death benefit is $2,500, equivalent to six times the monthly CPP benefit, capped at $2,500. Survivor benefits are available to spouses and dependent children, calculated as a portion of the deceased's monthly CPP. Our comprehensive aftercare program, which includes all services, helps you navigate these benefits.

Available Options Include:

  • Canada pension death benefit/survivors benefit

  • Last post fund

  • Alberta income support services

  • Band members benefits

Please consult your Funeral Director to explore eligibility for available benefits. Get more information here.
