In an area surrounded by older mansions, this modest mid-40’s house had sat basically untouched until the new owners took possession in 2022. Looking to update rather than demolish and start anew, it was decided a top-to-bottom gut- reno would tick all the boxes in the design brief. It started with all new mechanicals including HVAC, electrical and plumbing. A basement in-law suite was created to accommodate an elderly parent, while upstairs, the owners asked for something between traditional and contemporary – a style that is often referred to as transitional. The floor plan was completely re-jigged to create a new primary suite with a walk-in closet and a spa-like bathroom. A guest bedroom and an adjoining bathroom completed the sleeping areas. In the living room a feature wall with a linear gas fireplace adds a touch of modernity, while the dining room was expanded to accommodate larger gatherings. Topping everything off was a custom kitchen finished with burnished walnut cabinetry, and solid surface countertops and backsplash.
