FAQ

Commonly Asked Questions

Beauty Valley Spa uses only high-quality products to help you get the most amazing experience without worrying about any side effects. If you are new to tanning, you might have a lot of questions about the service, products, and maintenance. We have curated a list of some commonly asked questions with their answers to help you make an informed decision.

Can Everyone Tan in Sunbeds?

Unfortunately, the answer is not everyone can!

Your skin type affects how and if you can tan, and by law, we cannot offer tanning bed services to anyone under the age of 19.

However, we do have our Mystic spray tan booth available for everyone!

We require all clients using our Sunbed to fill out a waiver, which helps our tanning consultants determine your skin type and how much time you can tan during your sessions.

What Is Used to Disinfect the Equipment, How Are the Tanning Beds Cleaned?

Beauty Valley Spa trains our Tanning Consultants to ensure our tanning equipment is properly cleaned and disinfected between guests.

We use a medical-grade disinfectant (called PREempt).

This solution kills all bacteria on hard surfaces, including sunbeds.

Suppose you have any concerns at all about how we clean the sunbeds. In that case, we also offer the option of cleaning solutions and towels being available for guests to wipe down handles/general area if that's what makes you feel more comfortable!

How Do I Make My Tan Last?

Once you develop a base tan you are happy with, then you just need to maintain it, which ranges from visiting 1-3 times per week.

Beauty Valley sells take-home products that can extend the life of your tan and provide you with all the necessary skincare benefits.

Other ways include; avoiding excessively shaving and hot showers, which may cause your tan to fade. We also encourage moisturizing excessively - whether it’s to care for your tan from our sunbed or spray tan booth!

Why Do I Need to Use Tanning Lotion and Why Can't I Use Lotion from the Drugstore?

The lotion is a very important agent when trying to achieve the best and quickest results.

Tanning lotions give you 40% of your colour. Many contain natural ingredients, such as tyrosine, that help stimulate melanin production in your skin. Lotions can restore your skin with vitamins and nutrients that UV exposure could take away. Drugstore lotions are not specifically designed for indoor use, are very basic, and may not help your specific skin type.

Using an approved indoor lotion will help speed up your tanning results by up to 70%.

I Turned a Little Red after My Last Session, What Do I Do?

Always wait until the redness is completely gone before coming in for another session.

We also advise clients to hydrate the area as much as possible using a hemp or aloe-based product.

When you are ready to come back, be sure to lower your time by 1 minute and slowly work your way back up.

Can I Tan While on My Medication?

The answer to this question would depend on the type of medication you are using.

We ask all clients to include this information on their waivers and talk to our Tanning Consultants. We have a medication list that we follow per our tanning bed guidelines and will not allow clients taking said medications to tan until talking to a physician before exposing themselves to UV light.

Our Tanning Consultants are NOT medical experts.

Most medications will state on the bottle whether or not they will cause light sensitivity.

Spray Tan

Will I Turn out Like Ross on That Episode of Friends?

This is our most frequently asked question!

Thankfully, the answer is absolutely not!

Our tanning consultants are trained to instruct new clients on how to do the spray tan step-by-step.

Our machine also has a friendly voice to walk you through the process when you’re ready to start! The spray tan unit used during that episode was also outdated. Our Spa has new and updated equipment only.

How Long Does Spray Tans Last?

The Mystic is made to darken your skin based on natural undertones and lasts 5-7 days.

If you care for your Spray Tan properly, you will make the most out of the tan!

Another factor depends on what shade you choose, as we offer three options: light, medium, and dark.

Our tanning consultants can look at your skin and lead you in the right direction as to what shade to choose!

How Do I Prepare for My Spray Tan and Maintain It?

Before your appointment:

  • Exfoliate at least 24 hours beforehand.

  • Shave/wax at least 24 hours beforehand.

  • Avoid wearing make-up, creams, and deodorant.

  • Wear dark, loose clothing for comfort.

  • Be sure to remove any jewelry before getting in the booth.

How to maintain:

  • Wait 6 hours for your tan to develop before sweating / getting wet / getting into a sauna.

  • Your first shower should be a light rinse - you may wash your hair, however, avoid body soaps.

  • Moisturize daily!

  • Will I turn orange?

  • Skin only ever turns orange because of over-saturation.

When you choose a colour that is too dark for your skin pigmentation, you can get discolouration (like orange).

The better prepared the skin is, the better the tan.

Our tanning consultants are trained to choose the perfect colour for you.

We also recommend adding an enhancer to your spray tan to help prevent streaking. Also, it ensures the spray tan is evenly absorbed even in dry and oily areas. And it helps make your tan last longer!
