How Do I Know if a Masonry Surface is Suitable for Stains? The most important thing to know is that for a stain to be effective, the surface must be absorbent. A simple test is to put water onto the surface of the brick or concrete. If the water is absorbed easily, you should have no trouble staining it. If the water pools on the surface, that could indicate poor absorption, which could make staining a problem.
-
What is mineral stain?Mineral staining involves using mineral-based products that chemically react with the surface to create a durable, long-lasting colour. They react with the minerals in the surface, such as calcium carbonate in concrete or masonry, to form a chemical bond. This reaction results in a permanent colour.
-
How many coats of mineral stain are typically needed?Usually, one coat is sufficient for most applications. However, depending on the desired colour intensity and surface porosity, a second coat might be needed.
-
What is the Difference Between Mineral Stains and File Forming Paints? The main difference is how they work and how breathable they are. Paints trap moisture in the wall, which eventually leads to paint cracking and blistering. That means you’ll have to scrape and repaint on a regular basis. Meanwhile, mineral stains are 100% breathable and won’t crack or peel. Moisture will pass right through it.
-
Are mineral stains environmentally friendly? Our mineral stains are considered environmentally friendly due to their low volatile organic compounds (VOC) content and natural composition.
-
How Colourfast are Stains?Stains use only inorganic pigments rather than organic ones. Organic pigments fade over time whereas inorganic ones will never fade.
