It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald (Ron) Hugh O'Neil. Ron passed away peacefully on August 6, 2023, at the family cabin in southern Alberta.

He was born in Gainsborough, Saskatchewan, to Annie and Hugh O'Neil, on January 23rd, 1934.

In 1954 Ron met Molly and together they had two children, Sean and Kathleen. He obtained a law degree from the University of Saskatchewan. In 1961, Ron brought his family to Calgary, where he took a job with Royalite. Ron entered private practice in 1965 as MacPherson Kelly and O’Neil. From there, he was elevated to the Provincial Court Civil Division in 1995 and retired in 2009. For those that had the pleasure of knowing Ron, they appreciated the sense of humor that laid behind a quiet and reserved exterior.

Ron and Molly loved to travel and visited many countries. Ron's love for adventure extended to the open waters, where he found solace in sailing and being a member of the Calgary Yacht Club. He even built a sailboat within the confines of his own basement. The family joined The Glencoe Club in 1969 where he enjoyed a vigorous game of squash. He was an early adopter of technology and owned a Commodore 64 before anyone had heard of personal computers. Ron joined The Bar Association in 1960 and remained a member throughout his legal career. He and Molly were regular subscribers to the CPO and Theatre Calgary. He was a proud member of Zetland Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and Fiat Lux. As well as he was an active member of the Calgary Glenmore PC association.

As time went on, they were blessed with grandchildren and their family continued to grow with the arrival of a great-grandchild.

Ron is survived by his children, Sean (Lynn) and Kathleen (Ken), and his grandchildren, Ariel, David (Soyee), Justin (Savannah), and great-grandchild Jacob. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Molly, his parents Annie and Hugh, brother John and niece Laureen.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm, on Monday, September 25, 2023, the Glencoe Club, 636 29 Avenue SW Calgary, Alberta.

Cremation has been entrusted to Martin Brothers Riverview Chapel.
